Francke

Matthew G. Francke , Associate AIA and LEED AP of Vision 3 Architects in Providence, R.I., was elected to chair the American Institute of Architects Rhode Island chapter’s newly formed Committee on the Environment. Francke, a graduate of Roger Williams University, has been with Vision 3 Architects for more than six years. He achieved his LEED AP accreditation in 2003.


Trivers Associates , an architecture firm with offices in St. Louis and Edwardsville, Mo., named David Miller, a LEED-accredited professional, as a director in its Trivers, Ill., office. Miller’s responsibilities will include planning, project management, programming and business development. Miller was previously vice president and project manager for Cannon Design, and vice president for Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum.


Charles Brown , AIA, LEED AP, and the staff of Brown Architecture Inc. have joined Raleigh, N.C.-based SFL + a Architects. Brown will assume the role of principal at the firm, joining existing principals Robbie Ferris, Eric Lindstrom, Ron Rice, Kenneth Underwood, Mark Sealy and Eddie Anderson. Brown and the staff of Brown Architecture Inc. have been active within the U.S. Green Building Council and have received a number of awards, including the North Carolina Sustainability Award in 2002, which recognized the firm for its continuing contribution to sustainable design.


SmithGroup, ranked as the nation’s seventh largest architecture and engineering firm by Building Design & Construction, has announced that 243 of its 800 employees are now LEED-accredited. In January 2006, the number of LEED-accredited staff members at the 10-office firm stood at 87.


NTDSTICHLER Architecture of Tucson, Ariz., hired two senior project architects for its education studio. Alan V.C. Scott, AIA, brings 31 years of industry experience to the firm. Michael S. Harris, NCARB, has practiced architecture for more than 20 years and has designed numerous schools and performing arts facilities. They have practiced as a team for the past 19 years.


Patrick Brosnan was appointed president and chief executive officer for Legat Architects Inc. in Waukegan, Ill. He will be responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day management of firm operations. He joined the firm in 1988 as a project manager. James McDonough was appointed to chief operating officer. He joined the firm in 1990 and has more than 25 years of experience in architecture, programming , design and project management. In his new role, he will focus on improving company operations in the areas of project delivery, management and procedures.


Darryn Bouknight, AIA, LEED AP, was named associate with the architectural firm The FWA Group, a planning, design and construction company in Charlotte, N.C. that specializes in educational facilities. Bouknight has 10 years of experience with the firm and is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council. In addition, Jason Coats joined the firm as a project designer. He brings five years of primary and secondary school experience to the firm.


DMT Architects if Hasbrouck, N.J. announced that four staff members have become LEED-accredited: Justin Rueckel, project designer; Ricardo Bermudez, AIA, senior architectural designer; Sara MacDonald, AIA, project architect; and Beyong Eon Park. In addition, MacDonald recently received an architectural license to perform work in California. She works on design development and construction documents for private sector projects and has experience working on projects in the education, commercial and health care industries.


Beverly Prior Architects , a San Francisco-based architectural firm, hired Byron Bronston, AIA, as lead designer. He is responsible for design vision and leadership, including responsibility for design staff, processes and products. Prior to joining the firm, Bronston served as a lead design architect with SmithGroup.


Raymond Pan, AIA, LEED AP, joined HMC Architects as a senior designer in the firm’s health care design studio. Prior to his new position, Pan worked as a senior architectural and urban designer. Chris R. Taylor, AIA, LEED AP, was promoted from managing principal of the Ontario East office to executive vice president of the firm and regional vice president over the Southern California offices. Lee Salin, AIA advanced from managing principal of the firm’s San Jose, Calif. office to chief operations manager.


Chicago-based BSA Life Structures announced the LEED accreditation of four employees. Andy Lane and Megan Burgess, who work ion the firm’s architectural group, and Todd Reust and Janie Shestopalov, who work in the engineering group, all passed the LEED exam.


Cannon Design of Buffalo, N.Y., announced the addition of Eric D. Sweet, CCCA, LEED, as an associate vice president to the firm. With 20 years experience in construction management, he has worked with a variety of building types including educational, corporate, sports and recreation, industrial and health care. In addition, Scott F. Reed of the firm’s Los Angeles office was named regional market and practice leader. He will be responsible for the market initiatives of the Yazdani studio of Cannon Design and Cannon Copenhagen laboratory planning and programming consultancy, with a focus on the growth of the firm’s West Coast and Pacific Northwest practice.









Aronson

Vanir Construction Management Inc. of Sacramento, Calif., hired Brad Aronson, who began his career with the company as a student trainee in 1987, as a vice president/project director. He brings 20 years of experience in construction to his new role and is a licensed general contractor.


Ashley McGraw Architects P.C. of Long Island, N.Y., announces that Jun Shin is now a registered architect in New York. Shin has been with the company for more than six years and is recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council as a LEED AP. In addition, Melissa Brower joined the firm’s interior design team. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University’s School of Art and Design FIDER-accredited interior design program.


Following the retirement of two longtime executives, Lee Salin, AIA, was promoted from managing principal of HMC’s San Jose, Calif., office to the firm’s chief operations officer, and Chris R. Taylor, AIA, LEED AP, was promoted from managing principal of the Ontario east office to executive vice president of the firm and regional vice president of Southern California offices. The two promotions follow the Jan. 1 retirements of James Gilliam, AIA, who served as president and CEO before resigning for a mentor position, and Donal E. Endsley, AIA, NCARB, who served as senior vice president of risk management. HMC also hired Harold D. Kiewel, AIA, NCARB, CSI, CCS, as specifications writer. Kiewel previously worked at Ellerbe Becket of Minneapolis and has more than 30 years of design experience.


Ken Hulik joined GeoEnvironmental Inc. of Livonia, Mich., as an associate principal. In his role he will focus on industrial hygiene, toxicology, environmental compliance and management systems, design for the environment, ergonomics and chemical risk management. His experience includes a 26-year career with General Motors where he was the director of global health and safety. In addition, John Pilling was named associate principal at the company’s headquarters in Norwood, Mass. Pilling has worked at GZA for more than five years as a senior project manager and has more than 20 years of experience in the industry.









Bogdan

Pittsburgh-based PPG named James J. Bogdan as manager of sustainable design and green building initiatives. He will serve as a conduit between practitioners of sustainable design and the company’s performance glazings, architectural coatings and industrial coatings businesses. He has had a 15-year career in the environmental, health and safety industries and previously held marketing and consulting positions with architectural and engineering firms.


John Pilling to associate principal at the company’s headquarters in Norwood, Mass. Pilling has worked at GZA for more than five years as a senior project manager and has more than 20 years of experience in the industry.

PPG Industries named James J. Bogdan manager of sustainable design and green building initiatives. In this newly created post, Bogdan will be responsible for accelerating PPG’s growth in the commercial construction market and position the company as a provider of glass, coatings and paints to the green construction industry. Bogdan has 15 years of experience in the environmental, health and safety industry.
