Green Hospital Building Opens in India

AHMADABAD, India — Gujarat state in India unveiled its first green building last week, which is part of the Care Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital in Ahmadabad.

The green building boasts a sewage plant for recycling water and pits for harvesting rainwater. It also incorporated electricity-cutting features and environmentally-friendly construction materials.

Developers transformed nearly half of the building’s open space into courtyards and gardens.

Hospital officials say the Care Institute is one of the only hospitals in the country with a green building.

The building was funded through a mix of debt and equity, the debt coming from private entities and banks.

The 150 bed-hospital plans to expand capacity to 450 beds in the next three years.
