Range to Develop Green Appalachian Office Facility

PITTSBURGH — Range Resources Corp. has reached an agreement with Horizon Properties Group for the development and leasing of its new Appalachian regional headquarters located in Canonsburg, Pa. Horizon President Rod Piatti says in published reports that construction on the state of the art eco-friendly facility is set to begin immediately with a targeted completion date of November 2011.

The initial phase of the project — designed by Design Stream Architectural Studio in Pittsburgh — calls for the construction of a five-story, 180,000 square foot Class A office building on a 13-acre site in the popular Southpointe Business Park. Horizon has already obtained the required Washington County and Cecil Township approvals and the second phase of the project is planned for building expansion up to an additional 100,000 square feet. The structure will have an average floor size of 35,000 square feet and will include a 225-seat auditorium, a café and an out-door event plaza. Building plans were developed with strong environmental awareness and energy-efficiency in mind.

PJ DICK Corp., the projects construction manager, plans to hire local union contractors and suppliers, according to reports. Range has authorized Horizon to develop the project to U.S. Green Building Council LEED standards.

Ray Walker, senior vice president at Range Resources, says the construction of the new regional headquarters facility signals Range’s commitment to responsibly expand their Marcellus operations. The goal of their green facility is to not only accommodate an anticipated growth of employees which stands to double in numbers with local hires, but also to incorporate the latest in energy- efficient technologies to aid in minimizing environmental impact.
