Q-Cells Partners with Starwood for 30 MW Solar Project

GREENWICH, Conn. — Starwood Energy Group Global, a privately owned investment firm specializing in energy infrastructure investments, signed on to finance a 30 megawatt AC solar photovoltaic project in the city of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Partnering with Starwood is Q-Cells North America, which is in charge of construction activities and will procure operations and maintenance services post-completion. The Starwood Energy affiliate acquired the project in June from Pod Generating Group a developer of community-scale solar power generating facilities.

Starwood SSM2, as the project is called, will be comprised of three 10 MW AC solar photovoltaic power generation projects, and is contracted under the Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program established and managed by the Ontario Power Authority and will connect to local utility PUC Distribution to restore power to the grid. Starwood officials say the facility will be among the largest of its kind in North America.

This is the second venture in Canada for Starwood in recent months. Work on a 20 MW solar facility financed by Starwood began last December and is expected to be completed in the near future.

Q-Cells NA chief operating officer Boris Schubert stated in a recent report that Ontario’s solar industry is on the rise, and his company looks forward to supporting Ontario’s visionary solar program.
