Landscaping Recognized at Green Star Awards


Penn State University – University Park

BALTIMORE — The Professional Grounds Management Society recognized the grounds of several college and university with its 2010 Green Star Awards in Louisville, Ky.

 
The awards program recognizes college and university grounds maintained with “a high degree of excellence,” as a way of “complimenting other national landscape award programs that recognize outstanding landscape design and construction,” says the PGMS. The society awarded seven Grand Awards, 14 Honor Awards and 12 Merit Awards in 13 categories to schools in the United States and Canada.
 
Penn State University – University Park won a Grand Award, the highest award in the University College Grounds category. Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, Texas Woman’s University, the University of Alberta in Canada and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas won Honor Awards in the same category. Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, Texas Tech University’s Arbor Day annual event in Lubbock and the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania earned Merit Awards in the category.
 
In the Urban University Grounds category, Fordham University in New York City won the Grand Award. Columbia University, Illinois State University and the University of Guelph in Canada won Honor Awards. The College of Wooster-Gault Manor in Ohio received a Merit Award in the category.
 
PGMS is a society of grounds maintenance professionals. It was founded in 1911.
