Bird Repeller
Bird-B-Gone introduces the Repeller, a solar-powered unit that uses continuous motion to prevent large birds from landing. The solar panel powers a brushless motor that stores energy.
Rotating rods mounted on top of the unit sweep birds off of streetlamps, balconies, AC units and other structures. The product features two adjustable arms that cover up to 5 feet in diameter by turning continuously at 30 RPMs. It can be mounted on flat or angles surfaces.
Composite Decking
ChoiceDek Decking is composite decking made with a combination of recycled wood and polyethylene plastic. It features 30 percent post-consumer and 60 percent preconsumer recycled content. The product has a wood grain texture and the appearance of real wood.
The product features encapsulated wood fibers in polyethylene to increase its longevity. ChoiceDek is available in 12-foot, 16-foot and 20-foot lengths.
Recycled Fiber
Foss Manufacturing Company introduces Ecospun polyester fiber made from 100 percent certified recycled plastic PET bottles. The fiber can be added to other textile products, including carpets, wall coverings, and furnishings and combined with the company’s Fosshield to create antimicrobial fabrics.
Texas Medical Center Features State’s Largest Green Roof
WEBSTER, Texas — The Houston metropolitan land market and simple long-run economics pushed Jacob White Construction to develop the three-story East Medical Center project around environmentally sustainable technologies that may win LEED gold certification with the largest living roof in the state, according to officials.
But company president Jeff Mickler also sees the project, which features two 48,000-square-foot medical buildings, as a marketing tool that can differentiate Jacob White in the market.
KI Supplies Products for First LEED-Certified Building in Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE , Ark. — The University of Arkansas’s Fayetteville campus is host to the first building in the state to become LEED-certified.
The 35,000-square-foot Innovation Center is part of the university’s attempt to create an environmentally friendly campus it includes the Greengaurd certified Genius wall from KI. Made with more than 70 percent recycled aluminum, the moveable walls are 99 percent reusable and 96 percent recycled.

POWAY, Calif. — The school district here is set to begin construction on a $29.5 million environmentally sustainable elementary school.
Del Sur Elementary is the first Poway school district facility in which environmentally sustainable principles formed an integral part of the planning and design-concept phases.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Plymouth State University is the first college campus in the state to have a LEED gold-certified residence hall.
Designed by architectural firm Cannon Design of Boston, the five-story 114,000-square-foot Langdon Woods dormitory opened last September and houses 347 students.
Salt Lake to Impose Green Codes on Public Buildings
SALT LAKE City — Building practices could become a lot greener here after council members endorsed the creation of an ordinance that would require public buildings to incorporate environmentally sustainable measures and practices.
The bipartisan initiative will likely adhere to U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED-certification standards, with future public works projects required to incorporate sustainable design measures and construction practices, officials say.
