Charles Brown , AIA, LEED AP, and the staff of Brown Architecture Inc. have joined SFL+a Architects to expand the firm’s performance in the sustainable design practice. Brown and his staff are active within the U.S. Green Building Council and will provide SFL+a with additional expertise utilizing environmentally friendly, sustainable design principals. Brown will join the team as a principal.


Indianapolis-based BSA Lifestructures, an architectural, engineering and interior design firm, promoted two vice presidents to senior vice presidents. Kalevi Huotilainen is an architectural design principal with 25 years of experience and has been with the company for 10 years. John Sauer, LEED AP, has also been with the company for 10 years, and has more than 30 years of experience as a mechanical engineer.


KJWW Engineering Consultants, headquartered in Rock Island, Ill., announced several promotions. Steve Rhoades, PE, LEED AP, was named branch manager of the St. Louis office; Andy Thielen, PE, LEED AP, was named as an associate at the Des Moines office; Dave Pflipsen, PE, LEED AP, was named the supervisor of the mechanical department in the Chicago office.


Tom Darmody joined HOK, a sustainable planning, design, and architectural practice, as senior vice president and director of transportation in the firm’s San Francisco office. He has more than 37 years of experience in the industry.


K. Daryl Carrington, AIA, Ph.D., joined JDavis Architects PLLC of Raleigh , N.C. , as the director of sustainable design. With more than 25 years of experience as an architect, he will oversee the implementation of sustainable design strategies in the firm.


Kaestle Boos Associates, of Foxborough, Mass., hired Peter Brooks, AIA, LEED AP, as a project architect. Throughout his 28-year career he has worked on several municipal projects, including libraries, town halls, police and fire stations.
