Johns Manville Cavity-SHIELD™ Fiberglass is a noncombustible batt insulation designed for concealed floor and ceiling cavities in multifamily construction. Manufactured from formaldehyde-free fiberglass fibers bonded with a thermosetting resin, the product is available in a range of thicknesses to support NFPA 13-compliant passive fire protection applications. Cavity-SHIELD is engineered to provide an alternative to sprinkler systems within certain concealed spaces while also helping reduce sound transmission between floors and ceiling assemblies. The unfaced batts are designed for straightforward installation without specialized equipment and can be cut to fit a variety of cavity sizes. Durable inorganic glass fibers resist rot, mildew and deterioration, while the insulation’s low flame-spread and smoke-developed characteristics support fire-resistance requirements. The product also supports sustainability goals through its formaldehyde-free formulation and incorporation of recycled glass content, contributing to environmentally conscious building practices.
