USGBC Extends LEED 2009 Registration

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is giving the building industry additional time to prepare for LEED v4, the latest version of LEED.

The USGBC announced Oct. 29 that LEED users will be allowed to register projects under the LEED 2009 rating system until Oct. 31, 2016. The new date is more than a year after the original deadline of June 15, 2015, when new projects would have to be certified using LEED v4.

Green Technology Market to Reach $60 Billion

WELLESLEY, Mass. — Energy-efficient technologies around the world earned $36.3 billion in 2013 and jumped to $41 billion in 2014, according to a new report from BCC Research in Wellesley.

The September 2014 report, “Energy-Efficient Technologies for Commercial Building Construction,” said the global market for energy efficient technologies is expected to grow to more than $60 billion by 2019.

WASHINGTON — The design of an office building significantly affects worker health, wellbeing and productivity, according to a new report.

The report, “Health, Wellbeing and Productivity in Offices: The Next Chapter for Green Building,” was released Sept. 24 by the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) in Washington, D.C.

D.C. Hits LEED Milestone

WASHINGTON — The District of Columbia has surpassed 100 million square feet of space certified as meeting LEED standards, Mayor Vincent Gray announced on Sept. 11.

Only three other cities in the country — Chicago, New York and Houston — have passed that threshold, but the District leads all U.S. cities in the total number of LEED projects. Per capita, the District has led all states and major cities in LEED-certified projects and square footage for several years, according to a statement.
