WASHINGTON — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has announced new technologies as part of its innovative program to reduce energy-use in federal buildings. These technologies have significant savings potential if widely implemented.
Designed for hygienic, hands-free universal sensors for flush valve and faucet applications, the easy to install UL-approved hard-wired AC transformer by American Standard offers new power options. The system allows efficiency flush valves to run on reliable AC power, eliminating the need to change batteries, according to the company. The hard-wired configuration is also available with a multi-AC power option, allowing users to connect up to 15 faucets and/or flush-valves to a single system.
The KWC AVA single-lever basin faucet with its CoolFix technology is designed to offer facilities energy savings as well as comfort and convenience. Developed to reduce the use of heated water and overall energy consumption, the faucet keeps its lever at a midline standard position, automatically delivering only cold water, rather than a mixture of hot and cold as found in most faucets. The lever can also be rotated clockwise for heated water as needed.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Governor Jerry Brown signed several major pieces of energy legislation last week, keeping California on the cutting edge of the green industry boom.
Senate Bill 594 (SB 594) allows utility customers to apply the financial credit from solar installations to their overall energy bill for a plot or connected plots. Previously a utility customer could only apply credits from a solar array to the meter the installation was attached to.

Newly appointed vice president of SourceOne, Rick Smith, is now responsible for the operations at SourceOne’s California-based projects and contracts, providing services in energy management, efficiency improvements, and engineering solutions. He also oversees the company’s expansion plans and business development activities. Based at the firm’s new West Coast office in Los Angeles, Smith holds several years of experience at SourceOne and in the energy industry.
