COVINGTON, Tenn. — LaVergne, Tenn.-based PHG Energy is making Tennessee a greener place, by turning waste into energy. PHG signed an agreement with the city of Covington, Tenn., to convert waste to energy by using PHG’s downdraft biomass gasification equipment and technology.

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Two years after an advisory committee in Greenville helped develop sustainable practices and cut carbon emissions, the city of Greenville is taking the first steps towards a greener future.
By installing a few solar heating panels, a correctional facility in Indiana is boosting its local image, conserving energy and saving money.

GILBERT, Ariz. — The city of Gilbert may have its first LEED certified building with Fire Station 10. The recently opened station is aiming to achieve LEED Gold, making the 60-point requirement by eight additional points.
"The level for minimum number for gold is 60," said general contractor Ray DelZotto, H2 Group construction manager. "So, we think we’ve got a pretty good cushion there and we’re comfortable right now that we will achieve that certification, which exceeds the original goal."

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California has made headlines again in terms of environmental building practices. In January 2011, the state became the first in the country to create statewide green building codes with the CalGreen Building Code.
As of July 1, a set of improvements and enhancements to the code took effect that set higher standards for saving energy, conserving water and improving indoor air quality.
