Non-Profit Introduces New LEED Streamlining Tool

VANCOUVER, Wash. — The New Buildings Institute recently announced the official release of its new LEED automation tool, called the COMNET Energy Modeling Portal.

The institute is a non-profit organization with the stated goal of making it easier for builders to create green structures, with the hope of eventually building net-zero energy structures — which would consist of a building receiving all of its energy needs from renewable sources.

Mark Frankel

Technical director for the New Buildings Institute, Mark Frankel, AIA, ASHRAE, LEED AP, has been nominated to the board of directors of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). A member of USGBC’s Cascadia Chapter since 2006, Frankel is currently involved in national coalitions to market strategies for energy retrofits and in the development and implementation of programs focused on building performance.

Oil Mist Filtration System

The two new ScandMist air filtration systems from Clean Air America are designed to capture and remove oil mist within manufacturing facilities. The 70D and 100D models are small in size, allowing users to fit the machines anywhere at their convenience, according to the company. Each system features a fiber bed technology that enables oil mist to condense on the filter fibers, where it collects and drains into the machine’s reservoir. Designed to remain unclogged, the filters measure air speed for maximum air cleaning and minimum power consumption.
