Irvin Pearce, AIA, a founding principal of architectural firm Pearce Brinkley Cease + Lee, has been elected president of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for 2012. He currently serves as co-chair of the Design and Construction Committee for AIA North Carolina’s new Center for Architecture and Design headquarters building.


James Hughes recently joined First Solar as its new chief commercial officer. In this new position, Hughes will have comprehensive leadership responsibility for global business development and sales, project development, engineering, procurement and construction, product management and international public affairs and communications.
Nucor Building Systems, a leading manufacturer of metal building systems, promoted Ken Nichols to sales service manager for its division in Terrell, Texas. With more than 15 years of experience in the industry, Nichols has served in a variety of roles for the company, including his previous positions as district sales manager in the South Carolina and Indiana divisions.
Holcim’s Peter Deem was recently awarded the 2012 National Ready Mixed Concrete Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Deem joined the firm as a market manager in 1982. He was named Vice President of Sales for the Western region in 1995 and stayed with Holcim until his retirement in January 2010.
PHG Energy, a Tennessee-based alternative energy company, welcomed Robert Cox as the firm’s new national sales manager. Cox has more than 16 years of professional experience in the design and implementation of regenerative thermal oxidizers, recuperative thermal oxidizers, regenerative catalytic oxidizers and various other environmental control systems.
The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation institute has hired Stacy Glass to lead a campaign showing the building industry the value of Cradle to Crade-certified products. Glass has spent the last 20 years working with private industry, the non-profit sector, and government organizations to develop and execute start-up strategies for businesses and social enterprises.
Loureiro Engineering Associates Inc. recently hired Samuel W. Butcher, LSP, LEP, PG, LEED-AP, as the new vice president of the company. Butcher brings nearly 20 years of experience to the table. In his new role, he will work as a licensed site professional, with responsibilities including managing and overseeing assessment and remediation of contaminated sites in Massachusetts in accordance with the Massachusetts Contingency Plan.
Roger J. Zino, president of the maintenance division at ValleyCrest Landscape Companies, was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of the firm. A leader in its management team, Zino joined the company in 2001 and oversees more than 120 maintenance branch offices across the U.S.
ValleyCrest Landscape Companies welcomed back Andrew J. Brennan as its chief operating officer. Brennan returned to the company to provide additional corporate leadership and operational support required to run an organization with the size and breadth of ValleyCrest. He originally began working with the company in 2003 and has since served in several capacities within the firm, most recently as chief operating officer of the maintenance division.
Steven Bushnell, a senior director at California-based Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co., has been appointed to the U.S. Green Building Council 2012 board of directors. At Firemans’ Fund, Bushnell is responsible for development of products and services for emerging industries. In 2006, he developed the first green building insurance coverage in the industry.
