Qianyun Zhang
Qianyun (Gloria) Zhang, Ph.D., an assistant professor in New Mexico State University’s (NMSU) civil engineering department, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Aggie Construction Innovator of the Year Award. The Hunt Center for Entrepreneurship at NMSU’s Arrowhead Center created the award to recognize faculty members who exemplify leadership, creativity and impact in the construction field.
Since joining NMSU in August 2022, Zhang has made significant contributions to structural health monitoring, advanced materials research and data-driven construction solutions. Her work aligns with the award’s focus on groundbreaking research, sustainable building practices and the development of innovative construction processes.
Zhang leads Z-Lab, a research hub within the civil engineering department that is dedicated to addressing contemporary engineering challenges with transformative solutions. Her innovative projects have gained widespread attention, including at the Bold Idea Challenge and Aggie Shark Tank, where two of her doctoral students earned first-place honors and caught the interest of investors.
The Aggie Construction Innovator of the Year Award highlights the growing emphasis on innovation at NMSU, particularly in the fields of engineering and construction. By establishing this honor, the Hunt Center for Entrepreneurship aims to encourage and spotlight contributions that drive progress in these vital industries.
