Deborah Burke
The prestigious 2025 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Gold Medal, an honor recognizing individuals whose significant body of work has had a lasting influence on the theory and practice of architecture, was awarded to Deborah Berke, FAIA. Berke has led a career of exemplary creativity, inclusivity and sustainability, from founding Deborah Berke Partners in 1982, to becoming the first woman to serve as dean of the Yale School of Architecture, to achieving LEED Platinum certification on the Dickinson College High Street Residence Hall. In addition to recognizing her extensive portfolio — including receiving the AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion for architectural education in 2022 — the AIA honored Berke for her belief in design as a tool for fostering connection, enriching lives and promoting sustainability and inclusivity.
