JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Jan. 20, the Mayo Clinic broke ground on its newest center located in Jacksonville. The design of the new lung restoration facility will offer a new perspective on the way medical facilities are built. At the groundbreaking ceremony, a solar panel was signed that will be part of the new building, which will be carbon neutral and environmentally friendly.
SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Silver Spring Library, located in Montgomery County, Md., was awarded LEED Gold certification thanks to the many energy-saving elements incorporated into its design. The library, which was finished in June 2015, is a model of sustainability for Montgomery County.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Construction on the Golden 1 Center is underway, and the soon-to-be home of the Sacramento Kings basketball team is being designed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
Currently on track for a September 2016 completion, the Golden 1 Center will hold an estimated 17,500 people. Turner Construction is serving as the project contractor, while ICON Venue Group is the project manager and AECOM is the architect. All three companies have offices in Sacramento.
HDR appointed Burcin Moehring, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, a new education, science and technology principal at HDR’s Seattle architecture office, to the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories Emerald City Chapter’s board of directors. Architecture and interior design firm CetraRuddy, based in New York, announced the hiring of Kevin Nasello, LEED AP BD + C, as senior associate. An experienced designer and project manager with a focus on sustainability, Nasello, who had previously worked at CetraRuddy as an associate architect from 2004 to 2011, will help manage many of the firm’s projects.
