General Electric has announced the promotion of Beth Comstock to the new role of vice chair. Comstock is currently the head of General Electric’s business innovation unit and has brought LED lights and digitalization to the $2.5 billion lighting company. Comstock also leads GE Ventures and Licensing, corporate marketing, sales and communications. She will oversee the development of new customer business models. She first joined GE in 1986 through its acquisition of NBC.
Tarkett, a worldwide leader in innovative and sustainable flooring and sport surface solutions, announced that its Johnsonite Arcade Rubber Sheet flooring has achieved the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) Bronze Certification under Version 3.1. This certification is the first of its kind earned by a rubber manufacturer. All Johnsonite rubber tile and rubber sheet products have been similarly certified and contribute to LEED credits version 4.

WASHINGTON — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on Aug. 24 approved the Blythe Mesa Solar project in California as part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan to reduce carbon pollution, create jobs and move the economy toward clean energy sources. The 485-megawatt photovoltaic facility will be constructed in Riverside County, Calif., and will produce enough renewable energy to power more than 145,000 California homes, according to a statement by the BLM.
BOULDER, Colo. — The University of Colorado announced August 24 that newly renovated residence hall, Baker Hall, has received LEED Platinum certification, making it one of 18 buildings on the University of Colorado campus that have been LEED-certified. The 15-month renovation was finished in August 2014.

SAN FRANCISCO — The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the San Francisco-based Tribal Green Building Codes Workgroup announced on Aug. 17 a new toolkit to assist tribes in prioritizing and implementing healthy, green building policies and practices. The Tribal Green Building Codes Workgroup is comprised of representatives of tribal nations and federal agencies.
