Boston Building Earns LEED Gold

BOSTON — Boston commercial property owner Equity Office Properties announced that its building at 222 Berkeley was awarded LEED Gold certification for Existing Buildings by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The building, located in Boston’s Back Bay, contains 535,000 square feet of retail and office space. Tenants include Houghton Mifflin, Summit Partners, Liberty Mutual and Bank of New York Mellon.

222 Berkeley was completed in 1991 and has been continuously retrofitted since then with the latest lighting, mechanical, building control system and water conservation technologies in order to achieve conserve the largest amount of energy possible.

In 1999, 222 Berkeley was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as the first commercial office building in Massachusetts to earn the Energy Star label. The building maintains a current label with a rating of 91 out of 100 points.
