Happy Holidays From Green Building News
2007 was a momentous year for green building, with several key developments and widespread interest in environmentally friendly buildings — from construction to maintenance and operations.
Green was inescapable, grabbing headlines and cover stories in most mainstream publications. But the interest in green building was most apparent at the numerous trade shows and conferences in 2007, including West Coast Green, Green Build and the American Institute of Architects annual conference, which was almost entirely dedicated to environmentally friendly design and construction techniques.
Two events we attended in the final days of 2007 provided insight into just how far the green building movement has progressed and where it is headed in the near future.

Although catering to a very specific region and market segment, the Green California Schools Summit showcased many new ideas and concepts, including a statewide plan for grid neutrality at all new schools. Read about State Architect David Thorman’s thoughts on the topic with our latest Editor’s Pick.
We also attended the Ecobuild conference in Washington, D.C., which attracted nearly 2,500 attendees and 250 exhibitors who shared ideas and heard about a variety of green building techniques and products. Read about some of the highlights in our News and Featured Product sections.
With that, we bid adieu to 2007 and wish you a happy and safe holiday season! Thank you for your readership and we will see you in 2008 with more information on the latest news, trends and topics in the green construction market.
Sincerely, Matthew Crawford Managing Editor gbn@emlenpub.com www.greenbuildingnews.com
