Halogen-Free Cables

The new UL-rated Category 6 and 5e riser cables from General Cable do not contian halogens, including chlorine, fluorine, bromine and iodine, reducing the overall toxicity of the cable and resulting in a more environmentally friendly product. The riser cable may qualify for LEED credits, according to the manufacturer.

Hand Dryer

Mitsubishi Electric HVAC Advanced Products Division recently updated its high-speed Jet Towel hand dryer with a built-in, energy efficient heater. The product never comes in contact with hands, increasing sanitary conditions, and takes between five and six seconds to dry hands, according to the manufacturer. It is available in a 120V model and installation requires no reinforcement.


Water from the user’s hands is collected in the unit’s drain tank, keeping bathroom floors dry. It will automatically shut off after 30 seconds of use and can be mounted at any level.

Lighting Controls

The Vari-Ballast Control lighting control from IEPC Corp. uses on-site, remote and aggregate Web-based controls to provide customers with energy-efficient lighting. The control reduces the number of ballasts and amount of rewiring necessary to install a standard fluorescent system. The lighting is a stand-alone energy management system that reduces the demand on power in real time.


The control can replace magnetic ballasts, timers, relays, control panels and the wiring required to connect each lighting fixture to all other external parts as well as the control panel.
