SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California is the first state to introduce mandatory green building standards after a new policy was created to achieve a statewide goal of 33 percent renewable energy use by 2020 and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, and water use.
Over the past year, I’ve met with school districts from across the country. I continue to find that the challenges these districts face are incredibly similar.
From California’s groundbreaking new green building codes to breakthroughs in water conservation, climate change, energy efficiency and transportation, sustainability has moved from concept to implementation, and California government is leading the way.
