Florida Company Launches Pilot Program to Expand Solar Power

JUNO BEACH, Fla. — In an effort to give more access to solar power options, the Florida Power & Light Company last week proposed a voluntary, community-based, solar partnership pilot program for consideration by the Florida Public Service Commission.

If approved, FPL will install new, solar-powered generating facilities in Florida communities. The program is funded by contributions from FPL customers.

MU Health Care Expansion Earns LEED Gold

COLUMBIA, Mo. — A $190 million patient care tower addition to the University Hospital in Columbia, Mo., has received LEED Gold certification. The eight-story replacement facility, which opened in March 2013, was designed by HOK, with offices in St. Louis, and constructed by JE Dunn Construction of Kansas City, Mo. It is the largest expansion ever for University of Missouri (MU) Health Care.

Erik Ring

Erik Ring has been promoted to principal at LPA Inc. The LEED Fellow and LEED faculty member for the USGBC has been with the Irvine, Calif.-based firm for seven years. He was the firm’s first engineer and has proven himself as a leader in both mechanical engineering and sustainable design, according to LPA. Ring, who is LPA’s design director for MEP engineering, has consulted for and designed more than 50 LEED certified projects.
