Solatube International Inc., a manufacturer and marketer of Tubular Daylighting Devices (TDDs), launched a new product called the SkyVault Series M74 DS-O. It is designed specifically for high bay commercial applications and is the biggest tubular daylighting device available, according to the company. It features a 29-inch opening to the sky, (an increase in aperture and collection capability over the Solatube SolaMaster series) making it possible for more light to enter an area.

Portland Affordable Housing Development Achieves LEED Platinum

PORTLAND, Maine — Pearl Place II, a 55,978-square-foot, 54-unit apartment complex in Portland achieved LEED Platinum certification. Energy models estimate that the housing complex is 25 percent more efficient than standard buildings with similar characteristics.

It is the second phase of an affordable housing development in the city’s Bayside neighborhood. Construction on the project was completed in January 2013.

UW-Madison Residence Hall Promotes Sustainability

MADISON, Wis. — Freshman students started filling the new 155-bed Aldo Leopold Residence Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) in late August. The 52,800-square-foot residence hall was designed with sustainability in mind and includes a rooftop greenhouse. Locally based Eppstein Uhen Architects served as the architect on the project.
