CINTEC America of Baltimore released its new Archtec bridge reinforcement system, a complete diagnostic design and installation service, specifically designed to strengthen masonry arch bridges. The Archtec process involves numerical modeling of the bridge and simulation of the loading regime in order to specify a retrofitted reinforcing system. A computer model is then used to determine the load carrying capacity of the bridge in its current condition. At the site, the CINTEC Anchor System, fashioned out of a steel bar enclosed in a mesh fabric sleeve, is installed.

Electronics Recycler Completes Solar Installation

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Vista Solar recently completed a 234-kilowatt commercial solar installation for AER Worldwide, a global electronics recycler and independent distributor of electronic components headquartered in Fremont, Calif.

Since its inception in January 1996, AER has been committed to protecting the environment through reuse and proper recycling of electronic waste, according to company officials.

“Installing solar made both ethical and business sense for AER Worldwide,” a statement from the company said.

Smithsonian Galleries Feature Eco-Friendly Lighting

HOUSTON — Toshiba International Corp.’s LED Lighting Systems division announced a joint effort with the Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Toshiba supplied the museum with LED lamps designed to allow visitors to experience the latest in eco-friendly illumination while lowering energy and maintenance costs for the galleries.
