New Wind Turbine Design Could Result in Fewer Animal Fatalities
MIDDLESEX, Mass. — Wind turbines have proved to be a great way to produce energy, but there is usually a downside to every great creation. Installing these massive structures has led to the deaths of many avian creatures throughout the world.


David F. Hales was selected president and CEO of Second Nature. Prior to his new role, Hales was the fifth president of College of the Atlantic, where under his leadership, the school was recognized as a net-zero emitter of greenhouse gases.
Technical director for the New Buildings Institute, Mark Frankel, AIA, ASHRAE, LEED AP, has been nominated to the board of directors of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). A member of USGBC’s Cascadia Chapter since 2006, Frankel is currently involved in national coalitions to market strategies for energy retrofits and in the development and implementation of programs focused on building performance.
BOSTON — The recent renovation of Boston’s Tufts School of Dental Medicine has received LEED Gold for its level two renovation and LEED Silver for its vertical expansion project. The projects’ certifications have showed the school’s commitment to staying sustainable even in a larger and more complex space.
Newly appointed project estimator of Joerin General Contractors Ltd., Brian Rosamond, LEED AP, has spent 24 years in the construction industry. He will be based in the company’s Dallas Fort Worth office. Leading professionals in estimating, design assistance, value management, and integrated project delivery process of design-build or design-assist, Rosamond has served in all phases of construction.
Charlie Hall has been chosen to represent U.S. Green Buiding Council member, Tubelite, as the new client development manager in Virginia. He will be working with G. Bowie and Associates. As part of the manufacturer’s representative team, Hall will provide Tubelite’s glazing contractors and architectural clients with storefront, curtainwall, entrance and daylighting systems.
