Solar Installation Set to Offset 95 Percent of Electrical Use

RONKONKOMA, N.Y. — SUNation Solar Systems of Oakdale, N.Y., and Perfume Center of America, which recently relocated to Ronkokoma, have teamed up to complete the second largest privately owned rooftop solar system on Long Island. Kulka Construction of Hauppauge, N.Y. chose SUNation to build the 830,000-watt system and install 2,674 solar panels on the rooftop of the new 180,000-square-foot Perfume Center of America headquarters.

The headquarters will house more than 100 employees. The company hopes that this solar project with Kulka Construction will demonstrate that by using solar energy, businesses can redirect their financial resources to growth, new hires and more innovative ideas as opposed to their electric bill.

The new solar system installations will offset 95 percent of Perfume Center of America’s electrical use over time and will drastically reduce the company’s dependence on local energy providers. In one year, the company will save approximately $168,715 in energy costs. Within 20 years of service, factoring in panel degradation and conservation, the company hopes to increase total energy cost savings to $4,202,607. Anticipated cost savings will also include a $66,000 rebate from the local energy provider PSEG, a $454,200 federal tax credit and $475,153 Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System depreciation.

The project will provide the company with a positive return on its investment. The $1.58 million project will be both environmentally friendly and cost efficient. “Through this commercial solar installation, we decrease our carbon footprint by reducing the use of fossil fuels, and we will preserve our environment,” said Kanak Golia, president and CEO of Perfume Center of America.

Plans for the solar installation began in March 2014, and construction began in April 2015. Kulka Construction, SUNation and the Perfume Center of America finished construction as of late June 2015, and the solar panels will go online this month.
