Syntheon Earns ISO for Environmental Management System

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh-based Syntheon, a wholly -owned subsidiary of NOVA Chemicals, recently announced that its Leetsdale, Pa.-based manufacturing facility received ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System certification.

The certification recognizes the facility’s efforts to help identify and control the environmental impact of its activities, products and services, according to the company. ISO 14001 certification, a recognition of the International Organization for Standardization, will also help the manufacturing facility to implement a systematic approach to setting environmental objectives and targets, and provide guidance and accountability to ensure the objectives are met.

“ISO 14001 certification is an important recognition of our company-wide focus on sustainability,” said Antonio Torres, president of Syntheon. “We look forward to realizing the positive impact it will have on our customers, the environment, and the building and construction industry as a whole.”

ISO 14001, first published in 1996, specifies the actual requirements for an environmental management system and applies to the environmental aspects an organization has control over, as well as on additional environmental features a system can affect.
