Vernon Ehlers, Energy Caucus

Ehlers

WASHINGTON — State representative Vernon J. Ehlers (R-MI) is set to replace Rep. Zach Wamp (R-TN) as co-chair of the House Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus.

“As an environmentalist, and a strong supporter of renewable energy, I am pleased to take over as co-chair of the (caucus),” Ehler says.

Ehlers serves on the committee on education and labor, the committee on science and technology, and the committee on transportation and infrastructure in the house. He was a scientist and teacher before entering Congress. He received his undergraduate degree in physics and a Ph.D. in nuclear physics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1960.

“He’s a research nuclear physicist by trade and has an incredible passion for educating the next generation of scientists,” Wamp says. “Our nation needs to seriously address the growing demand for energy, and his leadership will be invaluable as co-chair of the caucus,” Wamp says.

Representatives of both parties formed the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus in the House of Representatives in 1996. The caucus currently has 191 members from 42 states, the District of Columbia and two U.S. territories.

Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) is also co-chair of the caucus.
